Botanical Body Oils

If you know me at all, you know that I’ve always loved scents, oils, and little rituals of self-care. Long before I knew the word Abhyanga, I was slathering myself in creams and oils. So much so that my stepfather used to tease me and call me Greasy Jenny.

The fact that I’m willing to share that little piece of family lore with you should tell you just how deeply this ritual runs.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t apply oil to my skin—usually at least twice. What began as a practical habit gradually became something else entirely: a way of checking in, slowing down, and coming back to myself. A few moments of touch before rushing into the day, or a way of signaling to my body that it’s time to rest.

Last spring, as I prepared for our Embodied women’s retreat in El Cuyo, Mexico, I decided to blend a botanical body oil to bring with me and share with the women who joined us there. I wanted to offer them something I loved so much myself: the ritual of self-massage and the way scent has the ability to shift us almost instantly—back into our bodies, back into the present moment, back to ourselves.

It wasn’t until I was sitting in circle with these women, passing around little bottles of oil and watching them breathe deeply, soften, laugh, and settle into themselves, that I realized this simple ritual might resonate beyond retreat.

When I returned home, I called my dear friend Sarah Naciri of Wild Blossom Apothecary.

Sarah is an herbalist with a deep love of botanicals and plant medicine, and together we began to play. One blend became four.

Embodied.‍ ‍ Golden.‍ ‍ Coastal.‍ ‍ Bloom.

Each evokes something a little different. None of them promise transformation. They simply offer an invitation: a pause in the day, a breath, a small act of care, and perhaps a reminder that pleasure and presence belong in ordinary life, not just on retreat.

For now, you’ll find them at Sarah’s table at the Truro and Wellfleet Farmers Markets. Soon, they’ll also be available through the Wild Blossom Apothecary website.

More than anything, I hope they encourage you to slow down long enough to inhabit your body and your life a little more fully.
